Did you know that India is the second largest producer of textiles in the world? India’s most common textile crops are cotton, silk, and jute. The video above shows our Founder and CEO Theresa VanderMeer with longtime friend + current client partner Allyson Dykhuizen at a local fabric market in New Delhi.

Cotton makes up 60% of India’s textile industry and is also the most common fiber we use here at WORK+SHELTER. In 2000, India’s government passed strong legal protections (including high tariffs) against importing fibers from outside of India in order to preserve the domestic weaving and milling industries.
